WINDS/WEATHER: When the weather or winds forecast indicates or changes to unfavorable conditions we convert our online booking to “call to book” which helps reduce cancellations/refunds.
AIR TEMPERATURE: Cooler air temps mixed with wet clothing leads to shivering and chills and hypothermia risk. We typically do not operate when air temperatures are under 70°.
COLD WATER: In Shark River, the water temp usually doesn’t rise above 70° until mid-June.
Our cold water rule of thumb is when the air temp and water temp do not add up to equal a total of 130, we do not rent kayaks to reduce risk of hypothermia. This is a safety consideration. We tend to make day of decisions based on the actual air temp at the time of our high tide session.
